Review:
Bio Megaraptor is the first Bio-Zoid to be released in the Zoids Genesis line. For Genesis Tomy wanted to go in a new direction and Bio-Zoids certainly are different than anything we've seen in the past. The inner frame comes mostly pre-assembled and the armor (known as Hell armor in the Anime) comes on several sprues. The Hell Armor is made from a softer, rubbery material and is very easy to cut from the sprues. Unfortunately do to the softness of the plastic it's also easy to cut right through it so you have to exercise patience while cutting the pieces from the sprues. A typical Bio-Zoid can be assembled much faster than a standard Zoid and no stickers are included, which hastens the construction effort even more.

In the anime the Bio-Megaraptor is piloted by a man called Zairin who is an admiral in the Digald army. Zairin is the main antagonist in the series and has a rivalry with Ruuji, the pilot of the Murasame Liger. At first Zairin's Bio Megaraptor is the only one, however once it is destroyed the Proto Megaraptor is rolled out, which is a mass-produced version featuring slightly different colors. Unfortunately the Proto Megaraptor was not produced as a model kit.

Once Assembled the Bio-Megaraptor is quite large, roughly the length and height of Genosaurer but much skinnier. When you press a section of its spine the bio-core will glow and Bio Megaraptor will make one of several sounds. The articulation is rather nice but not nearly as good as Blox Zoids. The lack of ankle joints is rather annoying and can hinder the ability to manage good poses. The Hell armor tends to fall off rather easily in some spots but it's not too large of an issue. I should also note that the material the Hell armor is made from has a very bad smell when you open the box. It goes away within a day or two and for whatever reason subsequent Bio-Zoid releases did not have this problem.

Overall Bio Megaraptor does suffer from some major flaws but none of them are bad enough that I wouldn't recommend this kit. Anytime a company tries a totally new concept within an established line there are fans who will be disappointed or resist the change. Personally I think Bio-Zoids are a very unique concept and Tomy does improve on many of the issues Bio Megaraptor suffers from in later Bio-Zoid releases.
