Review:
In the fourth quarter of 2005 Tomy thrilled Zoid fans all around the world by releasing Gildragon, which is a reissue of the legendary Zoid Gilvader in a brand new color scheme. Fan demand for a reissue of this kit had been very high for a number of years but Tomy held off due to the large size and price point of the kit. I'm not really sure what changed their minds but it's nice to finally own a version of this kit.

At first many fans were confused about the color changes made to the kit, the reason being that Gildragon ties in directly with the "Zoids Genesis" anime. In "Zoids Genesis" Gildragon is used by the Sky People but is lost after being defeated by its nemesis, Gilvader. The main characters in the story find Gilvader trapped underground and successfully revive it. Unfortunately Gildragon doesn't get much screen time as it is damaged in battle against Digald a few episodes later.

Gildragon certainly lives up to its reputation, it's an awesome Zoid with a very imposing look and a satisfying building experience. Gilvader was a Grade-Up Zoid which was a group of Zoids created during the OJR line that used upgrade weapons which could plug into special ports. Gildragon retains all three Grade-Up ports but since Tomy has chosen not to reissue the Grade-Up weapons these ports serve no function. Gildragon also has two large sawblades in its wings and two in its backpack that spin when the motor is activated. Gildragon also has two new horns whch replace Gilvaders original horsn, although they are still included.

Overall Gildragon is a fantastic kit with a lot of cool features and a great color scheme, definitely recommended for everyone.
