Review:
Hound Soldier was originally released in 1989 and was part of the Grade-up line of Zoids. Grade-ups were Zoids that contained a small motorized port somewhere in their bodies, there were 5 Grade-up Units that were sold and any of them could be attached to the Grade-up port. For the Genesis line Tomy chose to reissue this kit, much to the delight of fans. Hound Soldier is not featured in the anime.

Hound Soldier now sports a realistic desert camouflage scheme which looks great, the brown tones look very nice against the gunmetal and gray. Since this is the first time Hound Soldier has been released in the current line of Zoids it was my first time building one and the thing that surprised me the most was Hound Soldier's small stature. The finished kit is not much larger than Command Wolf, it's quite small for a motorized Zoid.

Hound Soldier seems to have a good mix of long and close-range weaponry. Its chest mounts a large 3-barrelled cannon, on its back is a dual-laser cannon, and it has two large lances attached to its head that can fold down for melee combat.

Overall Hound Soldier is a nice kit but nothing too astonishing. It was nice that Tomy decided to finally reissue some of the older kits that hadn't made an appearance in the current line and most collectors will probably want to pick up this one for sentimental value.
